AIC works with the faculty to develop programs to enhance the academic experience at UBC law. We are
constantly striving to develop, improve, and refine AIC’s role within the UBC law community.

Notable among AIC’s past initiatives was successfully lobbying the Law Faculty to the move from the LLB to the JD degree designation. AIC has also played an active role in reshaping the first year curriculum to bring it to the forefront of Canadian law schools. If you have ideas on how to make the UBC law school experience a more academically pleasing one, please contact us!

Current programs include:

Academic Success Program: This program was developed in 2009‐2010 to address concerns within the first year law program. In 2010‐2011, AIC is working with the Assistant Dean, Kaila Mikkelsen, to continue the process of improving the first year experience, through Academic Success Sessions and Peer Tutoring.

Adam Albright Award for Teaching Excellence by an Adjunct Professor: Each year AIC recognizes the contributions of our Adjunct Professors with the Adam Albright Award.

Beyond First Year: A panel discussion in March to help first year students determine what classes to take in upper years. Both faculty and practitioners offer their perspective on what classes they found useful in law school.

UBC Pre‐Law Mentorship Program: AIC works with the UBC Pre‐Law Club to pair successful first year law students with pre‐law students. 1Ls provide general advice to pre‐law students including information on writing the LSAT and putting together a successful law school application. This program started in 2009‐ 2010 and it will continue in 2010‐2011.
